Mathematics Visions Statement

At Pencoys Primary School we aim that all pupils:

  • See themselves as mathematicians and find mathematics fun; they will have a positive attitude towards the learning of mathematics and an enthusiasm for the subject.

  • Approach maths with confidence and determination

  • Feel comfortable to make mistakes and learn from them

  • Enjoy mathematics by making it relevant and meaningful through connections to other areas of the curriculum and everyday life

  • Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics so that they develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.

  • Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication, including in unfamiliar contexts and to model real-life scenarios.

  • Can reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry and develop and present a justification, argument or proof using mathematical language.
