Welcome to Year 4!
Our topic this half term is 'Save Our Planet'. We will be focusing on the Amazon Rainforest, with a particular focus on deforestation and the impact of this. This will link closely to our science this half term about animals and their habitats looking at classifying animals, their adaptations and the dangers the environment poses to them.
Within writing lessons the children will be writing newspaper reports linked to the recent fires in the Amazon before moving on to persuasive letters about deforestation.
During reading the children will look at a non-fiction text about rainforests and then focus on the book 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell. The children will be familiar with the VIPERS questioning from year 3 and will continue with this structure this year.
In Maths we will look at the place value of up to 4 digit numbers, rounding to the nearest 100 and 1000, number lines to 10,000, Roman numerals, and negative numbers. During year 4 the children will take part in the new times tables test which is now compulsory for all children in year 4 therefore, any practise of times tables you can do together will be extremely helpful to them.
