Welcome to Year 6!

Hello and welcome to Year 6!

Our topic this term is ‘Awesome Egyptians!’ We will be learning all about life in ancient Egypt: Why did they build pyramids? Who were the pharaohs? How can we read hieroglyphics? How did they make mummies? We will be paying special attention to all of the exciting and gory parts of their history!

In Maths we will be learning about place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division before half term. Then afterwards we will be concentrating mainly on fractions but also geometry, position and direction. Throughout the entire year we will always keep practicing our mathematical fluency (times tables and number facts) as well as arithmetic.

In English we will be writing suspense stories about exploring Egyptian tombs, scary stories about mummies, newspaper reports about the discovery of Tutankhamen as well as instructional texts about mummification.

In Science, our first topic is light. We will be finding out about how light travels, how the eye works, as well as much more. After half term our topic is electricity, where we will be learning about different types of circuits and experimenting with the school’s new electric circuit making kits.

If you would like to know more about our exciting lessons this term then please read our topic map which is available below.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to pop in and speak to me and don’t forget to check the Pencoys Primary School Facebook page to see what we are getting up to.
